1. POSITION TITLE & HOST INSTITUTION

Allama Iqbal Visiting Fellowship Chair
at the Centre of South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, in pursuance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with the Centre of South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge, invites applications from eligible Pakistani academics for this prestigious visiting fellowship.


2. TARGET AUDIENCE

This position is open to all individuals serving in the rank of Associate Professor or above on a regular basis in both public and private sector universities in Pakistan.


3. BASIC ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

i. Academic Qualification PhD degree from an HEC-recognized university/institution in a relevant research area within the humanities or social sciences.
ii. Teaching & Research Record Must possess an excellent record of teaching and research.
iii. Academic Rank Normally be at the level of Associate Professor or above.

4. OTHER REQUIREMENTS

ii. Language Proficiency Must be proficient in the English language.
iii. Cultural Familiarity Familiarity with the culture, institutions, and people of the host country (United Kingdom).
iv. Leadership Capacity Capacity and competence to project Pakistan's language, history, and culture in the host country.
v. Professional Experience Experience in mentoring, advocacy, communication, organizational leadership (government/semi-government at senior level), budget management, research grants, diplomacy, media relations as a spokesperson, and demonstrated involvement in academic staff associations, etc.
vi. Professional Memberships Membership in professional or academic bodies, supported by documentary evidence.
vii. Research Output Research leading to quality publications during the tenure abroad is desirable.
viii. Computer Skills Proficiency in computer skills.
ix. Interpersonal Skills Should possess strong social and interpersonal skills to project a positive image of Pakistan.

5. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are required to submit the following documents:

  • Academic Curriculum Vitae (CV): A comprehensive and up-to-date CV.

  • Statement of Purpose (One Page): A clear and concise statement describing the applicant's interest in the fellowship and outlining the specific objectives they aim to achieve through participation in the program.


6. FELLOWSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

The visiting fellow will be expected to undertake the following duties:

1. Engage with students and scholars on Pakistan's history, culture, people, national and regional languages, eminent literary figures, geography, and regional, economic, and political environment, in line with the academic requirements of the University.
2. Engage with university staff in the teaching of Urdu, Pakistan Studies, Pakistani literature, history, society, and culture at the University.
3. Interact with the academic community of the University to positively contribute to relations between Pakistani academic community and the University.
4. Attend weekly seminars held at the Centre of South Asian Studies during the academic year, as well as other academic fora on relevant issues at the University.
5. Engage with students and scholars of the University with a research interest in Pakistan, as envisaged in the MOU.
6. Work with University staff to organize and conduct conferences, seminars, symposia, workshops, or art exhibitions showcasing Pakistan's culture.

7. PERKS AND PRIVILEGES

The Ministry will provide the following financial and logistical support, as determined by the Government of Pakistan and in line with the MOU:

  • Pay and allowances

  • Research funds

  • Travel costs (including return flights for the Visiting Fellow and family members: wife and children)

  • Visa costs

  • Housing and rent for the Visiting Fellow


8. TERMS AND CONDITIONS

1. Tenure The appointment will initially be for a period of three (03) years on a deputation/contract basis, extendable to a maximum of two additional years on a yearly basis, subject to satisfactory performance evaluated on a quarterly basis.
2. Pay Scale Pay and allowances will be equivalent to BS-20 and BS-21, as per the prescribed terms and conditions of the Government of Pakistan.

9. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION

  • Late Applications: Applications received after the due date will not be considered.

  • Proper Channel: Candidates already in Government/Semi-Government service are required to apply through the proper channel.

  • Shortlisting: Only short-listed candidates will be called for interview.

  • Travel Allowance: No TA/DA shall be admissible for the interview.

  • Reservation of Rights: The Ministry reserves the right not to fill the vacancy without assigning any reason thereof.
