CAREER OPPORTUNITY

SHARIAH ADVISOR

Pakistan Reinsurance Company Limited (PRCL) invites applications from qualified individuals for advisory services as a Shariah Advisor on a contractual basis. Applicants should possess the following qualifications and experience, and meet the specified age limit.


JOB SPECIFICATION & DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATION

Option 1:

  • Holds a Shahadat-ul-Aalamiyyah degree (Darse-Nizami) from any recognized Board of Madaris, AND

  • A Bachelor's degree recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan with a minimum of 2nd Class, together with

  • At least four (4) years' experience of issuing Shariah rulings in Fiqh-ul-Muamulat (including the period of Takhasus fil Ifta), AND

  • Adequate knowledge of Islamic finance and Takaful/Re-Takaful.

OR

Option 2:

  • A Post-Graduate degree in Islamic jurisprudence/Usooluddin L.L.M (Shariah), AND

  • A suitable certificate of Takaful.


EXPERIENCE

  • The candidate must have a minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a Shariah Advisor in the Takaful industry.

  • Proficiency in English and knowledge of applicable Pakistani laws are essential.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with:

    • Experience of teaching Islamic finance at reputable educational institutions in Pakistan, OR

    • Those holding an M.Phil. or Ph.D. in Islamic Finance.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Shariah Advisor will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

1 Provides expert advice on Re-Takaful policies and services.
2 Ensures that Re-Takaful operations, investments, contracts and agreements of the Company adhere to Shariah principles.
3 Ensures that Re-Takaful operations comply with any rules, regulations, guidelines, rulings or decisions issued by the SECP in respect of Takaful/Re-Takaful matters.
4 Assists in the formulation and implementation of Shariah-compliant Re-Takaful policies and procedures.
5 Provides technical advice and guidance, in accordance with Shariah principles, on handling facultative and treaty Re-Takaful policies.
6 Provides training and educational sessions to officers and officials of the Company on Takaful/Re-Takaful matters.
7 Fulfils all duties as outlined in the Takaful Rules 2012.
8 Undertakes any other assignment or task assigned by, or with the approval of the CEO or the Board.

TERMS, CONDITIONS & OTHER IMPORTANT POINTS

  1. Selection will be on the basis of merit, in accordance with the criteria prescribed in this advertisement and the Takaful Rules, 2012.

  2. The interviewing committee will be the competent authority for finalizing the order of merit based on candidates' performance in the interview.

  3. For the interview, candidates will, among other things, be expected to have carried out a prior detailed, in-depth study of the client's books of accounts with regard to Re-Takaful operations.

  4. The advisory services shall initially be engaged for a period of two (02) years and may be extended, subject to:

    • Satisfactory performance

    • The Company's requirements

    • Mutual agreement of both parties

    • Approval of the Board of Directors (BoD)

  5. The selected advisor will be paid a fixed monthly consultancy/advisory fee after deduction of applicable tax(s), to be mutually decided in the interview, commensurate with the relevant, verifiable experience of the candidate.

  6. The selected advisor will report to the CEO of the Company, or to any other officer authorized by the CEO.

  7. The role may require travel within or outside Pakistan, strictly subject to prior approval by the CEO.

  8. Age limit shall be maximum 55 Years as on closing date of the advertisement.


IMPORTANT NOTES

  1. The appointment will initially be made for two years, further extendable upon satisfactory performance.

  2. Original academic/professional documents mentioned in the resume will be required at the time of interview.

  3. Applicants working in the public sector are required to provide an NOC at the time of interview.

  4. The candidate shall not be entitled to any TA/DA for appearing in the interview.

  5. The client reserves the right to stop the hiring process at any stage without assigning any reason.

  6. Only shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview; selection will be finalized on the basis of merit resulting from the interview.

  7. Any effort to influence the recruitment and selection process will disqualify the candidate, who might otherwise be qualified.
