Last year, 10 universities of Pakistan were able to grab their positions in the highly prestigious list of Times Higher Education World Universities Ranking 2019. This year, The Government College University (GCU) has improved its standards and raised its ranking position from number 9 to number 6 in the list of Times Higher Education World Universities Ranking 2019.However, last year 10 universities of Pakistan made it to the list and this year 9 universities were able to be seize their positions in the list.

In accordance to the official announcement by the Times Higher Education on Thursday, this year, only nine universities of Pakistan maintained their positions to the World Universities Ranking 2018-2019 including:-

~ Comsats Institute of Information Technology

~ University of Agriculture,

~National University of Sciences & Technology,

~ Bahauddin Zakariya University,

~ University of Engineering & Technology, GCU,

~University of Lahore,

~Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University

~ University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences.

On raise in its ranking position GCU official’s statement

GCU Quality Enhancement Cell Director Iram Sohail was talking to the media about GCU’s improvement and accomplishments of raising its ranking position in the international list. She remarked:

“However, this year GCU has improved its ranking and secured the sixth position among Pakistani universities which was a great achievement,”

She further added that it is another achievement of GCU under the leadership of its vice chancellor, to get recognized internationally for its untiring efforts and continuous improvement in educational field of Pakistan.

Criteria of Judgment according to the Times Higher Education

The Times Higher Education list is maintained according to a few important key points on which the universities are judged. Every university is being judged on the basis of  the standards of teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook and also scrutinized on the basis of  the most inclusive and unbiased comparisons. The final calculations of the rankings are made by professional service firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Times Higher Education World Universities Ranking 2019 includes 1,250 universities from around the world short-listed on the basis of performance and balanced comparisons under intensive carefulness of the selection panel. Overall, 86 countries are displayed in the list including Iraq, Jamaica, Nepal, Tanzania and Kazakhstan for the first time.

The Government College University is located in Lahore; it was founded in 1864 as an affiliate college of Calcutta University. In 1882, it was affiliated with University Of Punjab. In Pakistan GCU is regarded among the best universities, about 95% of its students graduate every year.
