BISE Kohat was established on 19 January 2002, initially operating from temporary offices in KDA Kohat. Shortly after, 50 canals of land were acquired near Kohat University of Science & Technology on Indus Highway. The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa approved the master plan for a new Board Complex in September 2002, and construction began on 1 November 2002. In just 16 months, the new complex was completed, inaugurated by the Governor on 4 March 2004. BISE Kohat's jurisdiction covers districts and newly merged districts; District Kohat, District Karak, District Hangu, District Orakzai, District Kurram and Tehsil Sub-Division Darra Kohat.
