The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has announced to establish a Media University

The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) announced the plan of establishing a media University to provide students with courses related to electronic and print media. The CPNE announced their plan during an event organized by CPNE which was attended by head officials of Deutsche Welle (D.W) Academy and Deutsche Welle Pakistan.

According to the details released to press, the representatives of CPNE revealed that the University will be designed teach courses related to media training, technical aspects of media, modern media trends and computer networking. The CPNE Secretary General Jabbar Khattak said while addressing to the attendants of the event that faculties of media education and media training, training modules on journalism, computer use, and marketing, circulation, distribution and revenue generation are programmed to be introduced in the manner of modern and global educational standards.

The University will also introduce training workshops for enhancing skills of media professionals of Pakistan. These courses will be beneficial in upgrading the existing media techniques being used in Pakistan. The Secretary General said that this University will be Unique as it is focus on developing applied skills education rather than theoretical. It will be first of its type in Pakistan.

The University is planned to be named as CPNE Media Academy. It was also announced during the event that the Academy will invite foreign lecturers with the collaboration of D.W Academy. The Foreign lecturers will teach modern techniques and trends of media being practiced in global platform to Pakistani media professionals. The knowledge regarding practical work in the media field will be taught under ‘Continuing Media Education’ programme.

The Academy is anticipated to focus on implementing code and conducts of journalism according to law of Pakistan through educating the media persons. The media persons of Pakistan will be taught to not indulge in producing fake news and hate material through training in Academy. The establishment of University will also become source of job opportunities to many people.

The Pakistani has blossomed into a massive field in the past decade. Numerous numbers of private news channels have been established making the media industry one of the substantial profession in the country. The study of mass communication and journalism is adopted by a large number of Pakistani students. But the question that still remains a matter of great concern in Pakistan is the security of media persons. Pakistan is regarded as the most un -safe country of the world in terms of journalists.

If there is need of establishing new media Universities for developing this field more, and then there is need to provide a safe platform of work to media professionals as well. Media plays an important role for portrayal of truth and justice and also becomes a source of accountability to politicians. But another side of media is manipulating the general public by hate media reporting. It really is commendable that a new Media University will be developed to train media persons in order to provide a standardized and true media coverage in Pakistan.
