Sindh Government Rejects HEC’s Policy To Eradicate Two-Year Degree Programs

Sindh government has opposed the policy of the higher education commission to eradicate the two-year BA/BSc and MA/MSc degree programs. Earlier the commission had announced to abolish such programs and it was directed to the colleges and universities that do not offer admission in the two-year Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. Nisar Khuhro adviser to Chief Minister on Universities and Boards has stated that through this policy the HEC has challenged the provincial sovereignty. He clarified that the Sindh will not accept this decision and there will be the continuation of all two-year degree programs in the province.

Continuation Of Two-Year Degree Programs

According to the announcement made all the colleges and universities across the Sindh province will offer admission in the two-year degree programs. It has been further added that that the federal government has already robbed provincial rights by conducting the national MDCAT across Pakistan. Previously it had been also declared by the Sindh ministers that they will not accept the result announced by the Pakistan medical commission. The health minister of Sindh had said that the province will form the Sindh medical and dental commission that will be responsible to conduct the medical entrance exam to determine the eligibility of the students to take admission in MBBS and BDS in the medical and dental colleges of Sindh. 

Directives Issued By HEC

The adviser has said that the HEC issued the new policy for the associate degree programs and Ph.D. admissions. According to the new reforms, many students will remain unable to get an education on the large scale. In the last year, the higher education commission had issued the notification to all the educational institutes and informed them that the two-year degree programs will not be recognized by the commission undertaken after the academic year 2018. A letter was issued to all the public and private sector institutes to immediately stop the BA/BSc and MA/MSc programs. The HEC had phased out these programs due to quality concerns.
