The University of the Punjab has officially revised its tuition fee structure, imposing a significant increase across numerous academic programs, with the changes taking effect from this month.

On average, students will experience a 28% hike in tuition fees, marking one of the most substantial adjustments in recent years. The decision was finalized and ratified by the University Syndicate, according to university officials.

LLM Sees Sharpest Spike

The LLM (Master of Laws) program has witnessed the most dramatic rise, with fees soaring by 59%, adding an additional Rs. 5,825 to the total cost. This hike positions the LLM program at the top in terms of percentage increase among all the disciplines.

Undergraduate Programs Also Affected

Core undergraduate programs such as:

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc)

  • Bachelor of Commerce (BCom)

  • Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)

have all seen a 15% increase in tuition fees, impacting a large portion of the university’s student population.

D Pharmacy Fee Jump

Students enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy (D Pharmacy) program will now be required to pay Rs. 23,000, up from the previous Rs. 18,000—a sharp 28% hike.

LLB and Medical Diploma Adjustments

  • LLB (Bachelor of Laws) students will bear a 28% increase in their tuition.

  • The Medical Diploma program has experienced a 16% increase, which, although smaller, still adds pressure on students already grappling with financial challenges.

University’s Official Statement

A spokesperson from Punjab University confirmed that the updated fee structure is a result of detailed consultations and has received formal approval from the university syndicate. The spokesperson added, "This adjustment is aimed at aligning the university's operational costs with the current economic conditions, ensuring sustained academic and infrastructural development."

Students React

While the university maintains that the hike was necessary, student groups and unions have started voicing concerns over affordability and access to higher education. Several student representatives have hinted at organizing meetings and peaceful protests to challenge the sudden fee surge.
