Lahore: A private bank (Habib Bank Limited) has donated Rs 5 million to the Endowment Fund Trust of Government College University (GCU-EFT) for introducing scholarships for the financially-challenged students of varsity.

In another separate ceremony, the management of bank also handed over a cheque for Rs 5 million to the vice chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology (UET).

At Government College University, the bank president, Nauman K Dar, handed over the donation cheque to the Executive Committee Secretary of GCU-EFT Prof Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt. The chief internal auditor of bank Faiq Sadiq as well as representatives of GCU was also present there.

Prof Butt said that the trust will start five lasting golden scholarships from the donation which will be provided to the financially-challenged aspirants every year on merit.

This is the second time the bank donated Rs 5 million to the financially-challenged aspirants of university.

The vice chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah expressed gratitude to the management of bank for their donation to the trust, saying that main banks in Pakistan had a realization towards their corporate social responsibility.

At the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Nauman K Dar, who is also ex-UETian, met Vice Chancellor of UET Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid and presented the cheque to him. The amount will be awarded in the form of scholarships to the needy aspirants of undergraduate programmes on merit basis.
