QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019, has released its list of top 500 universities around the world for engineering and technology discipline. Only seven universities from Pakistan have been able to mark a position in this list this year.

The Seven Universities from Pakistan Which Were Ranked in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019 are listed below:

  1. Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad
  2. National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) ,Islamabad
  3. Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad
  4. Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS)
  5. COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI)
  6. The University of Engineering and Technology (UET-Lahore)
  7. University of the Punjab (UOP)

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) university rankings are an annual publication. It is one of widely read rankings of universities around the world. The results of these rankings are based on Academic reputation (30%), Employer reputation (20%), Faculty/student ratio (10%), International research network (10%), Citations per paper (10%) and papers per faculty (5%), Staff with a PhD (5%), Proportion of international faculty (2.5%) and proportion of international students (2.5%), Proportion of inbound exchange students (2.5%) and proportion of outbound exchange students (2.5%).

Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training Announces Fellowship Chairs in Foreign Universities for Pakistani Scholars

Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has announced four Pakistani chairs in foreign universities. The fellowships includes Pakistan Studies in Tehran University, Tehran, Iran, Allama Iqbal Fellowship, Heidelberg, Germany, Quaid-i-Azam Distinguished Professorship at Columbia University, Columbia, USA and Quaid-i-Azam fellowship Oxford University, UK, Chair in Urdu.

The candidaters applying for these positions must have a PhD degree in Urdu, Iqbalyaat, History, Pakistan Studies or any other subject of social sciences. Moreover, the candidate must have 7 years of teaching experience. He/She must have research experience from a recognized Pakistani University or center research organization and there must be at least 8 research publication papers issued on his/her name at Higher Education Commission recognized journal.

The candidate must have excellent command over the language in which the subject will be taught and the age limit set for applicant is 60 years. The contract will be of three years but it will be reviewed on the basis of performance every year. The terms of appointment also allows a year extension after the three year contract ends. An official of HEC also mentioned that, ‘The contracts of scholars can be cancelled even after one year if the performance of the selected scholar in the respective varsity is not satisfactory,”

The scholars will be selected by HEC but the final summary will be presented to prime minister who is chief executive of the country. He will make the final decision. The summary of applicants will be processed by HEC; it will conduct interviews, scrutinize documents and send it to Prime Minister. The budget for chairs will be approved by month of June this year. These chairs were vacant since last decade and now the government has started the selection process after much delay.
