Karachi: NED University of Science and Technology would establish a Center of Excellence for Transportation Engineering Research (CETER) Pakistan in association along with the Transportation Research Institute, Hasselt University of Belgium as well as Higher Education Commission expectabtly before August 2017.

The vice chancellor of NED University of Science and Technology, Dr Sarosh H Lodhi said:

This centre will be integral in spreading awareness among the masses and also providing a platform to the aspirants to study scientifically regarding the traffic management and obtaining advanced knowledge relevant to it.

The main aims of the centre include the advancement of transportation engineering and allied discipline research by involving the main higher education institutes in Pakistan under 3 important themes like travel behavior modeling and imitation, traffic safety as well as drivers training, tourism promotion and also the facilitation through managed transportation.

The center will provide the platform for transforming primary research products into commercial and practice-ready products with the help of its incubation centers with facilitation in development of small scale start-ups and spin-off firms.

It would establish a central point of contact in offering the advisory or consultancy services to the policy makers as well as the other shareholders in transportation related to the development projects, traffic rules as well as regulation developments, drivers training programs, survey as well as awareness campaigns, etc.

Furthermore, the centre will develop and execute joint Master’s, PhD programs accompanied by the other outreach activities (Short courses, Workshops, Conferences, Seminars) in association along with the partner institutes as well as other shareholders.

For this purpose, the Department of Urban and Infrastructure Engineering of NED University signed an agreement along with the Transportation Research Institute (IMOB), Hasselt University Belgium.

The signed MoU also includes the reduction of the tuition fee from 6000 Euros to 600 Euros for the aspirants of NED for their Master’s study in IMOB.

Moreover, the Faculty of IMOB is supporting Urban Engineering for organization of International Conference (IEDC 2017), that is scheduled for July 2017.
