Islamabad: Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has asked all the private and government sector medical colleges and universities to follow the policy of 85% open merit seats and 15% foreign quota seats at the time of admissions for academic session 2017.

As per an official of PMDC, under its new admission strategy for medical and dental colleges, if any seat of foreign or self-finance quota remains empty because of the non-availability of the eligible students or else, it would be automatically transferred to the open merit quota and the aspirant will be charged fee and set charges for an open merit seat.

While conversing he also said that the candidate will be eligible for foreign quota seats in any government and private sector medical and dental college if he or she holds a permanent foreign nationality, dual nationality or the status of overseas Pakistani plus who has physically studied and passed secondary and higher secondary school exams or equivalent outside Pakistan.

He furthermore added that the medical and dental colleges will announce admission procedure in its constituent or affiliated colleges along with the details of open merit and foreign quota seats simultaneously and the merit list would be displayed on the official website of university.

PMDC official said that the selected applicants for the medical and dental colleges will submit the fee within one week.

The vacant seats not filled by foreign students would be converted into local open merit seats along with the local student fee schedule.

Likewise, every medical institute across the province will display its fee and online official bank account number on its official website.

The tuition fee for the local students would be Rs 642,000/- yearly and the fee for foreign graduates would be USD 18,000 yearly.

He also said that no medical and dental private college or its affiliating university will publicize, process admissions in any way or admit the aspirants before October 31st, 2017 or before the display of final merit list of government sector medical institute of the respective province or zone.

The official added that the admissions to the MBBS and BDS programs in a medical and dental college/university would be made strictly on merit basis and according to the rules and regulations.
