LHC Directs Educational Institutes To Make Quran Teachings Mandatory From Academic Session 2021

The Lahore high court has directed all the educational institutes to make the Quran teachings mandatory from the academic session 2021. The court ordered that the Quran should be taught separately from the subject of the Islamiat. According to the sources, the bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed has said that all the students must be aware of the teachings of the Holy Quran. So in this regard, the court has finalized its decision has passed an order to include the Quran with its translation in the new curriculum of the next academic year. 

Holy Quran Act

Previously a petition was filed in the Lahore high court regarding the implementation of the Quran teachings in all the educational institutes across the country. As per the petition it was appealed to the court to implement Sections 3 and 4 of the Compulsory Teaching of the Holy Quran Act mentioned in the constitution of 2017. Afterward, the court had then sought a response from the federal secretary of religious affairs and higher education commission. Now after the LHC has also asked for the recommendations of the Islamic scholars before the implementation of the decision. The preparations have been underway as the court is determined to take this step to educate the students with the Islamic teachings as well along with the academics. 

Implementation of Quran Teachings

Earlier the National Assembly had passed the bill to teach the Holy Quran to all students in all the educational institutes. The new generation is not completely following the teachings and the guidance of the Holy Quran. So in order to guide them, a court lawyer asked the LHC to direct the public and private schools to initiate the Quran classes from grade 1 to 4 across province Punjab. The class 6th to 12th should study the Quran with translation. In June the Punjab government had announced to make the teachings of the Quran compulsory for all the students of the universities of Pakistan.
