The higher education commission of Pakistan has allowed continuing the two years bachelor's and master’s degree programs for the next two years. The educational institutes are permitted to offer admissions in the graduate and undergraduate programs. Till 2022, the students can apply in the various institutes for bachelors and masters. According to the announcement made by the vice-chancellor of the University of Peshawar the HEC has agreed regarding the continuation of programs. He further said that now there will be no difficulty for the students to get enrolled in the BA/BSc or MA/MSc degrees up till 2022.
HEC To Not Recognize Two Year Programs
Earlier the higher education commission had issued the directives to abolish the two years BA/BSc and MA/MSc programs. All the educational institutes were instructed to stop offering admissions in these degree programs as HEC will not recognize it. Besides the announcement by the HEC many institutes have been still offering admission in two-year degree programs. Moreover, various universities had also protested against this decision as it will put the students at a disadvantage.
Instructions To Educational Institutes
The commission had also sent the letters to the public and private institutes across the country in this regard. It was directed to the universities and the colleges that HEC will not consider such degrees that had been issued after 31st December 2018. In 2019 it was announced that the two-year BA/BSc degree programs will be replaced by the associate degree programs. The authorities basically changed the nomenclature of the degree and introduced the four-year degree program. Furthermore, the session of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Education was held in which the HEC officials had demanded a revision of budget and asked the government to increase it so that commission can facilitate the students in the education matters. Due to the shortage of budget, the HEC could not be able to provide grants to the universities.
