FJWU conducts 3-day annual book fair 2012

Rawalpindi, Library of Fatima Jinnah Women University conducted a three days Annual Book Fair 2012 at the university locations on Tuesday. The book fair was started by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir.
She said that such fairs are the need of time and have great significance as in the age of information technology, book reading habit is fading day by day. These fairs should be organised on regular basis at every institution. The main focus of the fair is to provide an opportunity to faculty members and students to buy the books of their interest under one roof and to promote book reading habit, she said.
In the book fair 16 registered book trade professionals set up their stalls. Other Heads of the Department and university officials also visited the book fair and purchased books on discount rates.
The book fair has a large variety of books including all major disciplines like Social Sciences, Media Studies, Computer Sciences, Management Sciences, Human Resources and Development Studies and received overwhelming response from the staff and students.
On the same day Dr. Saeeda Shah, visiting faculty from university of Leicester presented a lecture on Muslim Feminism. The lecture was arranged by the Gender Studies Department.
While addressing to the audience she discussed the concepts of Muslim and Western feminism. She also shared the different definitions of women's rights with the students. She said that the concept of feminism is actually the requirement of the west because over there women have no rights. She said that the problem with our society is that we do not follow the teachings of Islam, if we follow them all of our problems will be solved automatically. Islamic feminism does not accept any thing that is contradictory with the teaching of the Holy Quran.
After the question/answer session Dr. Rukhsana Hassan, Chairperson Gender Studies Department, gave vote of thanks to distinguished guest. In the end university souvenir was presented to the guest speaker.
