Lahore: Large number of Fatimah Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) students on Tuesday staged a protest against the decision of government of Punjab to affiliate their educational institute along with the University of Health Sciences (UHS).
Earlier the college was affiliated along with University of the Punjab.
The aspirants blocked Queens Road resulting in heavy traffic jams on adjacent roads.

The protesting aspirants said that there had been a degree verification issue of University of Health Sciences abroad.
They demanded the Punjab government to take away the notification affiliating the college along with UHS.
The protesting aspirants held the posture that aspirants from more than 23 states were studying at the college as the Punjab University was recognized by various states countries as a degree-awarding educational institute however in case of the affiliation of university along with University of Health Sciences, their hard work and their money will be wasted because degrees will not be of any use in their respective states.
The protesters were carrying placards as well as the banners along with the slogans carved in favour of their demands and against the concerned authorities.

The angry students threatened to continue their protest till their demand was not met.
Previously, the aspirants gathered inside the premises of varsity where they chanted slogans against the concerned authorities.
The representatives of Punjab Government, Health Department as well as varsity reached the spot and started intercession along with the angry protesting students.
They assured the protesters that their valid demands will be accepted.
Afterwards, the aspirants ended their protest and dispersed peacefully.
At the same time, the traffic jam forced the travelers to use the alternative roads.

Even ambulances were seen stuck because of the long queues of vehicles on major roads.
It might be mentioned that the city has been witnessing heavy traffic jams for the last couple of months on important roads because of the protests mostly by doctors, nurses, farmers, pharmacist, civil society, students, lawyers, political parties, religious parties, minorities as well as others.
