Lahore: The schoolteachers of government sector institutes of the province came in full force against the bad policies of the government of Punjab and staged a protest outside Lahore Press Club (LPC) on Thursday.

The protesting teachers threatened to blockade the Punjab Assembly if their demands were not met timely.

The government sector teachers demanded of the provincial government to increase their basic pay and give the teachers of primary schools a basic pay scale of 14th, elementary schoolteachers a scale of 16th while secondary schoolteachers a scale of grade 17th.

The teachers also demanded that the teachers who were already in grades 14th, 16th and 17th must get 2 additional promotions along with the other advantages.

Some other demands of the protesting teachers included terminating the handover of government sector schools to NGOs via Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) as well as ending disciplinary action against the teachers.

For this purpose, the Punjab Teachers’ Union staged a protest outside the Lahore Press Club. These protesters were holding banners and also shouted slogans in favour of their demands.

While addressing the protesters, the Central President of Punjab Teachers Union Chaudhry Sarfaraz demanded of the chief minister of Punjab, education minister as well as the school education department secretary to take instant steps to solve these issues being faced by the community of teachers.

While conversing regarding the demands of teachers, he highlighted that the government had yet to upgrade the basic pay scale of the government teachers as it had promised many times before.

He furthermore said that the in-service promotion of the teachers was also being delayed knowingly. He named these delays a conspiracy against the government education system across the province.

Chaudhry Sarfaraz also condemned the latest managerial changes made to the education directorial system in Punjab.

He warned that if their demands were not met, the teachers will blockade the Punjab Assembly and will hold a protest on September 16th, 2017.
