First Pakistani Muslim woman to join Las Vegas Police Department

Farhat Zahoor Abbasi, proud of Pakistan,  has become the first Muslim Pakistani woman to join the Police Department of Las Vegas, along with the honor of scoring the 6^th rank between the four thousand candidates and after that by completing her training along with gold medal.

The famous personality of Pakistan, Farhat Abbasi was born in Malkot village of Abbottabad district. She followed the traditions of her family and completed her education in Rawalpindi. The reason behind getting education there is that her home town lacked development because of the negligence of succeeding governments.

Her academic background was journalism and in the beginning of her professional career she attained a bit experience along with Daily Pakistan and Pakistan Ausaf. After that, she was offered a job at PTV; however, Farhat Abbasi could not accept this position, as at that time she was working along with World Bank project.

Fourteen years back, she moved to the United States of America and there she got married to an oral surgeon from Srinagar, who was serving as a Major in US army.  There she come to know that she don’t have any need to work to support her family so she played the role of a full time house wife.

Together with fulfilling her native responsibilities, she also served as an envoy of Pakistani culture.

During her search for the advanced career choices, she thought of becoming a commercial pilot, there is a training school near her house. She also tried out some initial flights, and impresses the instructor along with the confidence as well as the learning abilities.

At the same time, during her continued training, she came across the proclamation of hiring in Metropolitan Police Department of Las Vegas on Twitter and also on some other source. After few weeks of applying, she got an email asking her to expose for her physical test.

Farhat said, “When I got the email from Las Vegas Police department, is there no age restriction for this? Did not they see that I was born in 1973!”

Farhat ended up by clearing her physical test and after that she went on to also clear out her written test.

Afterward, the test of oral board, that is deliberated as one of the most difficult tests. This two hour long scary interview, decides if the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police department wants needs her or not.

At the end of the interview, one of the officers that were present there for taking the oral board test, while seeing her off, could not contain her excitement and told Farhat that they were actually impressed by her and also they welcomed her in the department in advance. She ended her oral test by obtaining 98.5 in the oral test which is undoubtedly a dream for most of the applicants.

According to her, “This complete procedure was actually really amazing”.

After the completion of selection procedure, she along with her 71 fellow successful candidates celebrated her 41 birthday.

During sharing her views, she said, while explaining my-self as a ‘Muslim-Pakistani’ at first become a hurdle for me, “I was asked a lot of questions, and some of those question I found so silly and I always used to laugh on them. Through those questions, they wanted to know if women were permitted to drive in Pakistan, if we were permitted to go to school or go out without covering ourselves. Many a times I used to show them our pictures of fashion shows and also of our actresses of Google”.

While replying to a question that if she had ever come across any offensive stereotypical discrimination against her more than fourteen plus years she has called U.S home, she said that she has not come across any such case.

“I can’t deny that these things don’t happen, just like there is no disagreeing that Pakistan has its own set of matters. Though, it is quite unfair to keep on emphasizing on the negativity of a state, as that is not a perfect demonstration of any society”.

She added: “I am proud to be a Pakistani and being a Pakistan I never hide my identity. Actually, I highlight my identity of Pakistan at any given opportunity and this is my way of subsidizing towards breaking labels regarding my state as well as its people.”
