The federal education minister has announced that the interprovincial education minister conference will be held on 4th January 2021 to review the situation of the coronavirus and to decide the reopening of the educational institutes across Pakistan. The meeting will be chaired by the federal education minister, Shafqat Mahmood. Earlier it was notified that all the educational institutes including colleges, universities, schools, and seminaries will remain closed from 23rd November to 10th January due to the second wave of COVID-19. Furthermore, the education minister had stated that in the first week of January the review session will be held to devise the future course of action about the educational institutes. In the meeting, the provincial education ministers will decide about the reopening or extending the closure of institutes. Meanwhile, the private school association has threatened to protest against the government if the schools were not permitted to resume academic activities from11th January 2021. 

Statement of Saeed Ghani

The Sindh education minister, Saeed Ghani had previously said that due to the prevailing situation the schools might remain closed in the upcoming month. He added that due to the upsurge in the number of coronavirus cases it did not seem possible to reopen the educational institutes according to the schedule announced by the authorities. The minister had also clarified that the students will not be promoted to the next grade without the annual board exams in the current academic year. 

IPEMC Meeting

In the meeting besides taking the decision regarding the reopening of the educational institutes, the ministers will discuss several other matters such as the health updates of each province from the respective ministry, schedule of the school and the board annual exams, reduction in the summer and spring vacations, schedule of the new academic session 2021-2022 and the inputs of the education policy. The education ministers will devise a further strategy to deal with the issues related to the education caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
