Federal education minister, Shafqat Mahmood along with the other provincial education and health ministers have finalized the reopening schedule of the educational institutes. The meeting of the National Command and Operation Center was held on 15th January 2021 to monitor the COVID-19 situation across the country and to make the decision about the resumption of the academic activities. Earlier as per the directives issued by the NCOC, all the educational institutes of the country remain closed from 26th November 2020 amid the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
Decision of NCOC
According to the decision of NCOC, the students from 9th to 12th class will attend the schools from 18th January 2021 as reopening schdeule announced previously because they have to complete their course work to appear in the annual board exams. The federal government has announced that this year the students will not be promoted without taking the board exams. The students from 1st to 8th grade will attend the school from 25th January and the higher educational institutes will be reopened from 1st February 2021. Furthermore, the NCOC will re-evaluate the data once again to check the infection rate in different areas. In the case of higher infection in any city, the educational institutes might not be reopened there.
Closure of Schools
The closure of schools has severely affected the academics of the students as due to the pandemic the students could not attend the school. The education minister has said that besides the education the health of the students is also important so the need of the hour is to maintain the balance between these two. He further added that the government wants to reopen the schools but the decision will be made by reviewing the data reported by the health department. In this regard, Murad Raas has ensured that there will be strict implementation of the coronavirus SOPs in all the schools.
