Conference on, ‘Building Innovative Pakistan through Science, Technology & Innovation Policy Held at Quaid e Azam University

The Conference titled, ‘Building Innovative Pakistan through Science, Technology & Innovation Policy was held at Quad e Azam University, Islamabad on Thursday. Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood attended the event and emphasized upon installation of incubation centers in universities for new inventions that can help in development of Pakistan’s economic sector.

The federal minister said that they core aim of universities should be to improve standards of education and make them hub of knowledge. The government is facing challenges of teacher training in education sector, he shared while addressing at the conference. Talking about poor quality of education in Pakistan today he said a 5 grade student cannot read a 2 grade book and I urge HEC to take concrete steps to resolve issues and led towards improvement and betterment.

He commended QAU’s efforts in development of Pakistan’ higher education system as it holds a top position in national and international university rankings. He hoped that the conference will come up with constructive suggestions that could uplift Pakistan’s education system. Pakistan’s government understands that building close linkage between academia and industry is need of the hour and it is taking steps to apply that, HEC is formulating policies for that as well, the federal minister concluded his address by these remarks.

Swiss Ambassador Thomas Kolly visited COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) to Discuss Mutual Academic Collaborations and Scholarships

Swiss Ambassador Thomas Kolly paid visit at COMSATS University’s Islamabad on Thursday. He was invited by Rector of CUI. The Swiss Ambassador headed a three member delegation. The delegation met with top officials, Rector and faculty members of CUI.

The rector invited researchers and academicians of Switzerland to visit CUI for collaboration in research programmes and improve teaching quality and scientific research of CUI University. The Swiss Ambassador welcomed the offered and elaborated different scholarships programmes being run by Swiss government for Pakistani students.

Haya (modesty) Day Celebrated in Pakistan Universities on Valentine’s Day (14th February)

Students observed "Haya (modesty) Day" on 14th February to counter Valentine’s Day. Islami Jamiat-e-Talba (IJT) gave the call for observance of ‘haya day” all across Pakistan. Seminars, rallies and events were held in universities of Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan and other major cities to promote the culture of modesty.

Zafar Iqbal Rhandhva, vice-chancellor of Agriculture University Faisalabad organized “Sister’s Day” at the university campus. He told the reporters, ‘The purpose to observe this day is to promote Islamic teachings related to women’s respect, and honor. We want to counter the non-Islamic traditions, which are penetrating in our society in the name of so-called moderation and Western festivals like Valentine's Day”.

A large number of female and male students, faculty members and media attended the ‘Sister’s Day” event at University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Scarves and shawls were given to female students and the teachers urged male students to give their fellow female students and female teachers their due respect.
