Islamabad: Almost 200 students of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) from Southern Punjab on Monday were handed over laptops, under the Prime Minister’s Youth laptop scheme.

Ultimately 2500 aspirants of the varsity are the receivers of the scheme. The receivers are the brilliant students from all over the country who were registered in Master, M.Phil and PhD-level programmes in the recent semesters.

The happy students received the latest laptop along with the specifications permitting them to be both as a computer and as well as a notepad. Moreover, an internet device was also the part of the package.

Minister of Education Engineer Muhammad Balighur Rehman was the chief guest of the ceremony who hoped that the winning students will utilize them as a tool to overcome knowledge gap in their study, empowering themselves to serve the society.

The vice chancellor of AIOU Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddique in his welcome address give surety that the university will continue its march towards a better future for their aspirants, by offering them quality education, along with the best study environment.

He hoped that the devices will help them to undertake advanced and applied research work to serve the society.

He admired the Higher Education Commission for giving the essential funding in doing the research work that is the top priority of the university.

He also spoke regarding the other initiatives of academic and managerial nature, taken during the last two years.

Engineer Baligur Rehman appreciated the vice chancellor and his team for bringing regarding qualitative improvement in the overall working of the university.

He noted that a number of praise-worthy steps were taken in the years for the improvement of the university, improving its academic ranking and building up its good image.

Regarding laptop scheme, the minister said it was designed and being executed through a transparent and impartial way and completely on merit basis. There is no flexible power with the government in this regard.
