Government College Women University, Sialkot (GCWUS) is a higher education institution purposely built to educate the females of Sialkot and other vicinities. GCWUS was established at Sialkot and is recognized as a university in 2012 on the initiative of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. About 4500 students and 71teaching staff is currently present at the university.
GCWUS is offerings undergraduate, graduate and post graduate courses including MS programs in Urdu, Economics, Islamic Studies, Political Sciences and English. The courses are upgraded on regular basis to remain parallel with the international standards of education. The outstanding, qualified and religiously committed faculty at GCWUS is busy in persuading and instilling high moral values, sense of responsibility and thirst for knowledge among the students.
GC Women University Sialkot always encourages research culture and for this purpose, ORIC Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization has been established at GCWUS. The ORIC is established with a purpose to motivate and encourage faculty members and students of the university to engage in research activities.
Government College Women University was established in 1951 as a college, it is the Sialkot’s oldest institution. The College was inaugurated by Miss Fatima Jinnah, on 1 December 1951 and Miss Muneem-ud-Din was appointed as the first principal of the college. The college was started with just 32 students and 10 teaching staff members. Primarily, F.A classes were initiated at the college and in 1952 F.Sc. classes were commenced. However, in 1960 B.Sc. classes were initiated. Later, the College was upgraded into a Post Graduated College in 1989 offering Master Classes in the subject of English, Urdu and Islamiyat. The Higher Education Department approved the execution of BS Hons 4 Years Degree program in 2010. This continuous academic progress results in the recognition of the institute as the First Women University in Sialkot in 2012.
Infrastructure and other Facilities:
Modern day infrastructure facilities are provided to the students for a healthier learning environment. The university has a full-fleshed IT support centre transport facilities health care centre as well as a day care centre for young mothers seeking education at the university. Moreover, recreational activities such as sports are regularly conducted at the institution where young girls are trained to challenge inter and intra state institutions. Co-curricular activities have flourished with the set-up of media-art and debating societies. Hostel facility is provided for distant learners. The students are required to submit to the department concerned, forms for admission to the hostel within 3 days from the date of admission for allocation of hostel accommodation. Career counseling, students councils are other facilities available at the premises .University is integrated with a comprehensive digital network to facilitate students with the internet service.
The Finishing School:
The finishing school teaches behavior and etiquette to young ladies to prepare them for the career world. It follows the primary academic education and focuses on deportment and etiquette. It is a one month course offering contemporary social skills and image management. It is taught at the end of final semester.
