The Pakistani universities in the public sector are still ranked highest by most students because of their affordability, well trained faculty and their large resources. University of the Punjab (PU), University of Karachi (UoK), University of Education (UE) and Allama Iqbal open university (AIOU) are the most reputed institutions to get BS Special Education. These universities allow students to participate in community-based project, research and internship in special education schools. Public universities are usually cheaper in tuition fees and thus accessible to many students with high academic standards and accredited degrees.
Another significant role in providing BS Special Education programs belongs to the private universities. Modern classrooms, new curriculum, and experience of international practice in teaching are provided in such institutions as Riphah International University, Superior University, and Greenwich University. Though they have higher fee structures than the public universities, they balance by providing smaller class size, more interactive classes and better links with NGOs and rehabilitation centers. This interdependency allows the students to have practical experience and be ready to be employed in practice in the sphere of special education.
BS Special Education Universities are interested in the development of an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Should a facility be lacking the forms of resource rooms, assistive technology laboratories and access to counseling facilities. The degree involves field training, where the students are expected to visit special education schools, rehabilitation centers, and inclusive classrooms to put the theoretical knowledge into practice. Most of the universities are incorporating digital devices in 2025, like virtual simulations and online case studies, to enable students to develop a better understanding of various disability conditions and intervention approaches.
The role of research is important in BS Special Education programs since the students can learn new ways of teaching and rehabilitation. Colleges have been promoting projects among students to work on matters concerning inclusive education, techniques of speech therapy and curriculum development in differently-abled children. In the last year, the internship programs are typically compulsory and allow students to have practical experiences and an opportunity to acquire teaching experience in general classrooms. Such internships usually result in jobs after one finishes his training period particularly when the student performs excellently.
BS Special Education graduates can choose between a variety of career opportunities. They can serve as special education educators, rehabilitation specialists, speech therapists (with extra qualification), curriculum developers and counselors. There is also a large number of graduates who work in NGOs, government departments, and other private schools with inclusive education. Universities that have excellent industry links enhance the employability of the graduates as they are linked to special education institutions and rehabilitation centers. Also, students are allowed to pursue MPhil/ PhD in order to progress to research, policy formulation, or faculty, which further develops inclusive education in Pakistan.
