Careers with a Business Degree

What's next after getting Business degree? That depends on several factors, including area of specialization and level of studies completed. A career may be launched in management, accounting, marketing, human resources or entrepreneurship, among other options.

Career Information; Those who embark on a management track typically have at least a bachelor's degree, particularly for position in large organizations. Leadership skills are required, as well as financial knowledge in purchasing and sales, plus the ability to communicate effectively. Managers need to be strong decision makers who are comfortable interacting with a diverse group of people. In any type of business career, these skills are vital: budgeting, planning, directing, hiring, organizing and managing.

Accountants and auditors may have a master's degree in business administration, with a focus on accounting. Many financial analysts have a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Business students who plan to branch into human resources or labor relations can do so with a bachelor's degree. For some business-related jobs, licensing or certification is required.

As A Business Major; Business education today focuses on core business courses as well as a range of classes in psychology, writing, math, computers, economics and other subjects. With a bachelor's degree, a person majoring in business can enter the workforce as an entry-level manager, a market researcher, an assistant product manager, a financial analyst or a human resources specialist, to name a few of many job options. According to The College Board, a nonprofit organization promoting college success for students, only about 10%-15% of students with a business degree go on to graduate school right away. Many work at least two years before applying to a graduate program.

With An MBA; while some business majors create satisfying lifelong careers after earning a bachelor's degree, others feel that professionally, they will advance further with a Master of Business Administration. An MBA program typically takes two years of full-time study to complete, although part-time programs are available. A number of MBA programs are best suited for those who first gain years of professional experience in a business setting. Having an MBA opens doors to top executive jobs and business opportunities.
