Punjab Prisons Department Government of the Punjab is a department for handling and managing the cases like capturing, controlling, care and emendation of prisoners in various district and central jails all across the province of the Punjab. First inspector general was Dr. Hathaway appointed at the establishment of the Punjab Prisons in 1854. The current inspector general is Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig appointed since 17 October 2017. This department helps improve the law and enforcement throughout the contrary in an efficient manner. Currently there are 40 jails functioning in the province including one High security prison, Nine Central Jails, Twenty Five District Jails, 2 Borstal Institutions Juvenile Jails and one women jail and 2 sub Jails.
