The Planning Commission of Pakistan is entrusted with the responsibility of the country’s overall development, planning, and policy formulation. The Commission aims to revitalize itself as a premier development think tank and policy advisor to the government through excellence in research and evidence-based planning.
Educational Qualification:
Ph.D. in any of the following disciplines:
Petroleum Geology / Geology (specialization in Coal Resources / Gas Reservoir)
Chemical / Energy / Mechanical / Materials / Electrical (Power) / Mining Engineering
With 14 years of professional experience including 5-8 years of managerial/administrative experience at policymaking level
OR
Master’s degree in the aforementioned fields with 18 years of professional experience, including 5-8 years of managerial experience at policymaking level
Required Expertise:
Proven experience in designing, planning, and implementing energy sector reforms and management strategies
Expertise in designing and executing technical policies and strategic interventions
Knowledge and experience related to digital economy and digital infrastructure development
Energy Planning & Policy Formulation
Develop short-, medium-, and long-term plans/policies for the energy sector in consultation with stakeholders.
Prepare national energy demand and supply projections to ensure energy security.
Implementation & Monitoring
Formulate and implement actionable plans to execute energy policies.
Monitor and review the performance of energy sector programs.
Advisory Role
Provide evidence-based guidance to the Government and Planning Commission on challenges and issues in the energy sector.
Promote technological innovations and public investment to address energy sector losses and deliver sustainable, affordable energy.
Technical Evaluation
Appraise, review, and evaluate energy sector projects and advise on prioritization, regulation, and standards.
Consider factors like international pricing, trade, foreign investment, and demand-supply dynamics.
Stakeholder Engagement
Coordinate with development partners to align Pakistan's energy strategy with global trends.
Represent the energy sector in CDWP and ECNEC meetings and assist in project approval processes.
Additional Responsibilities
Undertake any assignments as directed by the Prime Minister, Minister for Planning, DCPC, or Secretary PD&SI.
Maximum Age Limit: 62 years (as of the closing date of application)
Tenure: Initially for 2 years, extendable annually up to a maximum of 4 years, subject to performance
Pay Package: As per SPPS Scale
Government Employees: Must apply through proper channel. If selected, resignation or retirement is required before joining.
