Health Department Government of Sindh is one of the influential governing operating body in the province of Sindh. It is basically responsible for providing better living standard across this region. It is also accountable for offering medical education and relevant jobs. It controls administration of many state owned medical and pharmaceutical institutions like hospitals, pharmacies, clinics etc. It is working extensively in the rural areas for providing better healthcare to them. Health Department the Provincial Health Ministry is also facilitating Medical Education Training and Employment. Currently over 14,000 Doctors 2,000 Nurses and 12,000 paramedics are working for The Provincial Health Ministry Health Department. There are two medical universities, in Karachi and Jamshoro. Also three medical colleges in Sukkur, Nawabshah and Larkana, 12 Nursing School, 10 Midwifery Schools and 5 Public Health School for lady health visitors. The large number of hospitals and health facilities are widespread across Sindh with 6 teaching hospitals, 5 specialized institutions for chest, dermatological and mental illness, 11 district headquarters hospitals, 27 major hospitals located in the major cities, 44 Taluka hospitals, 99 Rural Health Centers in small towns, 738 basic health units in Union Councils, 305 dispensaries in larger Union Councils, 36 MCH Centers 12 maternity Homes and 39 centers for traditional medicine. At present, 17704 Lady Health Workers (LHWs) and 705 Lady Health Workers are working for Health Department of Sindh and more than 4,000 LHW are required to fulfill the need in provincial rural areas in Sindh.
