As we know that on-campus educational activities have completely postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. To cover the loss of academic activities, the University of Karachi is planning to begin online classes for over 40,000 students. A high-level meeting held at the Secretariat of Vice Chancellor that joined by several professors and other management staff. During this meeting Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, Vice Chancellor of the University has remarked that we want to make sure that the learning process is not being stopped and for this purpose, we need to know the good strategies to make the students able to get the course learning goals.
How Online Session Will Work
It has decided that in the first phase of the online learning system, the University of Karachi will offer a teacher training program with the help of online learning platforms. Moreover, software used for video conferencing would also be used for conducting online classes. For this purpose, the availability of the Learning Management System, LMS will arrange by the Higher Education Commission, HEC in cooperation with the Virtual University, VU. This LMS will be organized to use by the teachers and the students through which assignments process, lectures, and assessments will be possible.
However, it has also discussed in the meeting that students from remote areas are deprived of the facilities of internet connectivity and other problems they may face to join the online learning system. However, to facilitate those students, the Vice Chancellor of Karachi University has also suggested preparing standard operating procedures.
