The Chief Guest Dr. Samar Mubarakmand, in his address, said Pakistan is a country endowed with vast resources. The fertile lands yield abundant quantities of cotton, wheat, rice, oilseeds, fruits etc. which not only feed and clothe our people but also find their way into world markets to fulfill the needs of other countries. He said the present day world is too preoccupied in judging the economies of nations in terms of per capita incomes and balance of payments. These may be very important figures from the point of view of the economists who happen to dominate opinions on the progress of countries.

Dr. Samar Mubarakmand said in a world imminently facing global recession we may find that the ultimate yard stick for the survival of populations will be the availability of sufficient food, clothing, cheap electricity, clean drinking water and raw materials to run the internal economies competitively. This is absolutely the minimum requirement. In case of excess production other countries too can benefit from the export of surplus food and other commodities.

He said ninety five percent of the wealth of Pakistan lies under its soil in the form of huge deposits of coal, copper, gold silver, iron ore, lead, zinc, chromites and bauxite. Large gas fields and oil deposits may be lying under ground awaiting discovery.

He stated that in order to break the shackles of present poverty we have to divert our brilliant human resource to the fruitful exploitation of our immense mineral wealth. He urged the private sector to invest monetarily in these ventures while the intellectual input has to be forthcoming from the universities and research institutions of the country. “With a single minded focus on this vision there is no reason why the economy of the nation will not take a giant leap forward”, he added.

The Pro-Chancellor Mr. Hassan M. Khan, in his speech, said as you know, last year the worst floods in our history devastated Pakistan. So it was decided not to have convocation last year. Instead Riphah International University decided to build 40 houses for flood affectees near Charsaddah. Alhamdolillah, we have almost completed that project and the houses shall be handed over by the end of this month, Insha Allah.

Referring to the presence of Dr. Samar Mubarakmand as the chief guest, the Pro-Chancellor said he is one of the most respected scientists in Pakistan. Not only did he make pivotal contribution to Pakistan’s Nuclear Program but also today he is pioneering an amazing new technology to optimally exploit THAR COAL DEPOSITS to produce enough electricity to get rid of load shedding in Pakistan forever.

Congratulating the graduates, Mr. Hassan M. Khan said, they are about to embark on their own extraordinary journeys and create their own life adventures. He wished them success in their practical life.

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anis Ahmad, in his speech, said education and particularly higher education is linked with the economic development. Therefore current trend in higher education is to develop linkage with the industry. This facilitates availability of recourses for industry and developing of expertise and human resources by the universities.

He said economic development and progress is measured with per capita income and GDP. Similarly human development index is also measured keeping in view economic parameters. One major factor less emphasized or neglected is what kind of human being, family and society and ultimately what kind of humanity we want to see fifty years from now.

Dr Anis Ahmad said Riphah International University is concerned about future of the country and Muslim Ummah and the entire humanity. Our concern for ethical values and their integration in curriculum, teaching methodology and evaluation process is based on our design to have the holistic personality of our graduates and balanced and meaningful approach in life.  Earlier, the passing out graduate took oath to serve the humanity with dedication in their respective professions.
