ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) agreed to deliver free education up to BA level to the prisoners in Pakistani jails. The schedule will be implemented under the part of jails reforms programme.
The plan envisioned to facilitate the prisoners to make them educated by imparting free education from matriculation to BA level together with other incentives. This initiate will help in bringing prisoners in the educational network allowing them to turn into valuable citizens after ending the imprisonment. The plan will be executed under the directions of the Supreme Court, said a press release issued by university.

The projected plan holds simplified admission process for the prisoners along with comprehensive procedure of tutorial meetings, examinations and workshops to be arranged in jails in collaboration with jail superintendents who will play a role of coordinators and will be paid remuneration.
The keep the plan transparent a workable and effective procedure has been designed by the university to impart quality educational services to prisoners. The plan will be practical and problem-free. As per university education strategy, each jail will be declared “Prisoner Study Centre”.
All the material send to jail authorities will be stamped by the university with “Only for Prisoners” to ensure its usage only by prisoners.
