LAHORE, Punjab University spokesman has clarified that hostels are only allotted to regular student of morning sessions on purely merit basis and it was clearly mentioned in the admission advertisement of the evening program that hostels facility was not available for evening classes students.
The statement was issued as Islami Jamiat Tulba held a protest here at New Campus on Wednesday demanding hostel facility for evening students. PU spokesman Shabbir Sarwar said that there were a total 27 hostels, 15 for boys in New Campus, 10 for girls while two hostels for boys in Old Campus which accommodate 4000 boys and 3000 girls. Compare to any institution in the city, excellent facilities are provided in these hostels. About the demand of Internet facility in the hostel, the spokesman said that administration was currently focusing on security arrangements, however measures were being taken to provide the internet facility in all hostels and two hostels have been provided the Internet facility so far and this will be extended to all hostels very soon. Moreover every teaching department and main library has the facility of internet.
He said that minimum monthly mess charges Rs 350 were compulsory for students so that they may enjoy hygienic food of hostels instead of having edible from outside the Campus. About protest he said that expelled students also participated in the protest and they were tying to pressurized the varsity administration to restore their admission.These students were involved in illegal activities and were earlier restored on the request of their parents but many of them once again indulge in negative activities.
