The higher education commission has notified to abolish the 2 years MA/MSc degrees after 31st December 2020 and these degrees would be no longer accepted. It is informed to the students that the degrees received after the due date will not be recognized from 2021 onwards. According to the sources, HEC has directed all the colleges and the universities to stop the admissions in the MA/MSc degree programs as the authority will not issue the certified degrees after the completion of the program respectively.

No Recognition of MA/MSc Degrees

HEC has sent the letter to all the higher education institutes after the 31st meeting of the Commission and directed them that the HEC officials had decided to phase out the MA and MSc degree programs. The decision was taken by all the affiliated members of the commission. HEC has further informed the heads of the institutes to make sure the implementation of the announced decision. The students will be notified through various contact channels as well as online platforms about this announcement. 

Abolition of BA/BSc Programs

Earlier the higher education commission had also declared to not recognize the BA/BSc degree programs. The decision was announced in 2018 and the HEC has now notified all the candidates that were registered on or before 31st December 2018 are permitted to complete the degrees till 31st December 2020, Afterward, the degree will not be accepted by the commission in any case. Besides the decision of the HEC, many institutes are still offering the two year BA and BSc degree programs. A warning has been given by HEC to all the institutes and colleges to stop offering the admissions for the BA and BSc degrees. From the next academic year after the intermediate, the students can be enrolled in the associate degree programs.
