The All-Pakistan Electrical Engineering Conference, a multi-disciplinary event
and the third of its kind, began on the 9th of November ’07 and lasted
for two days coming to an eventful end on the 11th of November ’07. It
was held at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute by the IET GIKI Chapter.
The five important domains of the conference hosting a total of 146 participants
were the Technical Paper Competition, Speed Wiring Competition, Project Exhibition,
Company Presentations and Design Competition.
The event officially began on Saturday November 9th 2007 with the opening ceremony
at Agha Hasan Abedi Auditorium. The chief guest on this occasion was Mr. Zahoor
A. Qureshi (General Manager, Telecommunication, Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited,
SNGPL).
Students from various prestigious universities all over Pakistan sent their
technical papers for APE(2)C 2007 Technical Paper Competition. These research
papers were evaluated by the Faculty members at GIK Institute and in the end
35 teams were invited to the APE2C. Speed wiring competition was carried out
on the second day in which the participants were evaluated on the basis of different
design problems of undergraduate level. The Conceive Implement Compete design
competition hosted 40 teams (three members per team) from around the country.
This module was introduced in year 2006 and since then it has gained a huge
popularity amongst the participants. The competition was won by the CEET Punjab
University.
IET GIKI Chapter had the opportunity of inviting 17 Projects from the field
of Electrical Engineering to hold one of the finest Project Exhibition held
on campus. The top two positions were bagged by UET Lahore for designing an
intelligent patient care wheel chair and autonomous vacuum cleaning robot, while
Fast NU Peshawar won the second runners up position for designing an energy
conservation system.
The closing ceremony took place on November 11th 2007. Mr. Kamran S. Naqvi (Business
development Manager, Intel Education), Dr. Shahid Masud (IET Pakistan Representative,
Assistant Professor LUMS) were the Guests of Honor on the occasion. Mr. Kamran
S. Naqvi called upon the young engineers to play their due role in the industrial
transformation and economic development of Pakistan. Dr. Shahid also conducted
a brief presentation regarding the worldwide activities of IET.
