The transformative policy was approved during the university's 72nd Syndicate meeting , signaling a significant commitment to equitable education and social welfare.

The meeting, presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry, also greenlit a sweeping array of initiatives, including the launch of over a dozen new academic programs, a Rs. 3.25 billion budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year, and enhanced welfare measures for both faculty and staff.

The announcement of a 100% tuition fee waiver for students with physical disabilities stands as the cornerstone of the meeting’s welfare-focused agenda.   • MS/MPhil Programs : MPhil in Genetics, MS in English Linguistics, MS in Artificial Intelligence, MS in Pharmacology, and MPhil in Peace and Conflict Studies.

  • PhD Programs : PhD in Molecular Biology, PhD in Accounting and Finance, and PhD in Pharmacology.

This expansion diversifies the university's academic portfolio, offering students cutting-edge fields of study like Artificial Intelligence and Computational Statistics alongside strengthened traditional disciplines.

Bridging the Gap: Industry Integration and International Outreach

In a strategic move to enhance the employability of its graduates, the Syndicate approved the inclusion of co-opted members from the corporate sector in the Boards of Studies of all departments. This initiative is designed to tightly align the university’s curriculum with the evolving needs of the industry, ensuring that students graduate with relevant, practical skills.

Furthermore, GCU Lahore is bolstering its international presence by increasing the number of seats allocated for students from member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The university will also launch new specialized diploma and certificate programs in high-demand fields such as income tax law, banking law, and forensic law.

A Rs. 3.25 Billion Budget for Growth and Welfare

The Syndicate formally approved a robust budget of Rs. 3.25 billion for the 2025–26 academic year. This financial plan allocates significant resources to support the newly announced academic programs and, crucially, to fund a comprehensive suite of welfare measures for students, faculty, and staff.

Enhanced Welfare for Faculty and Staff

Recognizing the importance of its human capital, GCU Lahore announced a series of benefits aimed at improving the well-being of its employees. Key measures include:

  • The introduction of a comprehensive health insurance policy for all employees.

  • The clearance of all pending increments for faculty under the Tenure Track System (TTS).

  • A substantial increase in summer semester remuneration, raised from Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 50,000.

  • Enhanced compensation for visiting faculty and administrative staff (in scales 1–16) for extra work hours and weekend duties.

  • An increased breakfast allowance for staff.

  • Reduced PhD fees for the children of university employees.

Community Engagement and Infrastructure

Extending its welfare initiatives beyond the campus community, the university approved a new policy to open its sports facilities, including the gym and swimming pool, to external members. This move aims to promote a healthier lifestyle within the wider community and foster stronger town-and-gown relationships.
