Lahore, The Debating Society of Government College University Lahore has set an unprecedented record by winning the All Pakistan Inter-University Parliamentary Debating Championship at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute, Topi, NWFP for the fourth consecutive year. As many as 80 speakers from 16 institutions from Pakistan were defeated by the Ravians in the Round Robin League matches. The team comprising Rana Hamza Ijaz, Umar Ziauddin and Muhammad Umer Khan outwitted the Lahore School of Economics in Final to the lift the English Debates Trophy.
The GCU Urdu debaters, Sardar Junaid Bahadur Khan, Muhammad Najmuddin Farani and Abbas Nazir beat the orators from Allama Iqbal Medical College, FC College and Fatima Jinnah Medical College to lift the Urdu Debates Trophy. It is pertinent to mention that GCU is the only institution in Pakistan which has earned such a rare distinction. Owais Maqbool Bari was declared the best speaker of the tournament. GCU Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Aftab expressed profound delight at the enviable winning streak of the university’s outstanding orators.
