Future at risk: UoP stops degrees for Afghan students

Peshawar: Afghan aspirants who graduated from affiliated education institutes of University of Peshawar have been denied degrees by the management of university owing to the failure to produce Proof of Registration (POR) cards and passports as well.

While talking to the media sources, Abdul Wali, who graduated together with his 3 other friends two years ago from Islamia Degree College Peshawar, said that the officials of varsity refused to accept his degree form without a photocopy of his POR card or the copy of Afghan passport.

Wali said that he was told by officials at the examination department to attach a photocopy of POR card or of the passport if he wished the form to be accepted. He requested the examination department that he would either submit POR card of his father or uncle. Though, his form was rejected.

‘We have not been issued POR nor have the passport do we,” said Khan, another student. He said that he had studied in the affiliated college by university and has completed the degree. Though, the university is not providing him the degree.

He is not the only one to face the effect of this problem. As per Khan, hundreds of students have reported this issue to Afghan consulate.

He furthermore said that “I have also approached the embassy of Afghanistan in Peshawar to sort out this matter.”

The legation agreed to issue them letters to provide them the degrees. Though, he said that the management of university said such letters will not be accepted and no degree would be issued to Afghan aspirants without attaching either a copy of their POR card or passport along with the degree form.

He said at the time of admission the college asked students to submit POR cards but he did not attached it with the form and was still granted admission. “I was not aware the university will demand POR cards or passports for the issuance of degrees.”

He advised the authorities to take action as the future of hundreds of Afghan students is at risk.
