Faculty of Gomal University Urges Federal Government to Resolve Unrest in University

Gomal University, which is one of the oldest University of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa, has been facing a state of unrest in its administration for months. The faculty members of Gomal University have urged the Federal Government to get involved in the University matters to resolve the issues.

The faculty of Gomal University has not been performing academic duties for last two months, the tiff between faculty staff and administration is still unresolved. This unrest has disturbed the education of Gomal University students. FAPUASA has appealed for a solution by the intervention of higher commission of Pakistan and Federal Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The provincial president of FAPUASA Dr Iqbal Munir, has suggested the appointment of a permanent Vice Chancellor for the University can solve this unrest. He said that the newly appointed VC’s of Universities have been observed victimizing the faculty members of Varsities, this should stop and concrete measures should be taken for maintenance of sound work environment in Universities.

Presidents of various KPK Universities, FAPUASA president and FAPUASA president for KPK along with delegation have held meetings with administration and faculty staff of Gomal University. But, the meetings failed to conclude a solution for the resolution of Varsity’s matters.

Dr, Iqbal Munir has also commented that the Vice-Chancellors should include the faculty staff in development plans of University and build a trustable relationship between administration and faculty staff. The VC’s should also take suggestions from faculty staff to strengthen academic system of the Universities.

But unfortunately, due to lack of communication and trust between administration and faculty staff of Universities, the students are paying heavily. The future of students is under stake, the academic activities are on hold for last two months. Gomal University is 12th oldest University of Pakistan and second oldest in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The federal Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa has taken rapid measures for development of higher education in the province, the education budget for fiscal year 2017-2018 was allocated Rs136 billion, which is 15% increased from last year. Scholarships programmes like Bright Scholarship Orientation for M.Phil & PhD (courses) students United States 2018 and CISCO Certifications Sponsored By US Aid are also attainable to students of Gomal University.

Despite all these efforts by KPK government, the unrest in Universities is rather disappointing. The duties of Vice Chancellor are to strengthen financial and administrative base of the University, ensure the aims, objectives and vision of the University have been carried out by the administrative and faculty staff of the University.

The VC has to oversee the academic progress of the University and give directions to his sub-ordinates regarding betterment in University matters. This unrest can be taken as a symbol of weakness in appointments of potent VC’s by the government. The VC should be able to resolve matters of University and satisfy his team for un-interrupted academic process. The KPK government should set a strict criterion for appointment of able VC’s to avoid students from academic loss.
