The education ministry has formed a committee to ensure the implementation of the single national curriculum. The guidance will be provided to the concerned authorities to review the revised curriculum documents according to the necessary requirements. Moreover, the committee will also suggest the areas in the syllabus that should be included or excluded as per the academic standards.
Single National Curriculum
Earlier the single national curriculum had been developed by the federal government in collaboration with the other provincial governments. The main purpose was to provide equal learning opportunities to all the students across Pakistan so that they can excel in their educational careers. This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic the new academic session could not be started from March and the board exams are expected to be conducted in May/June. The single national curriculum will be implemented from the next academic session to start in August.
Implementation of SNC
In the last month, the Sindh education minister, Saeed Ghani had announced to not adopt the SNC as the province already had an advanced curriculum as compared to the other provinces. But the federal education minister, Shafqat Mahmood had directed all the provinces to get the textbooks of classes one to five published according to the single national curriculum. The federal ministry has said that the discussion with the Sindh governments is in progress and the SNC will be introduced in all the public and private schools as well as seminaries. After launching the curriculum at the primary level the government will launch the uniform curriculum for classes 6 to 8 from the next year and classes’ nine to twelve from 2023.
Committee For Supervision
The members of the committee are associated with the reputable institutes of Pakistan that include Quaid-i-Azam University, University of Engineering Lahore, FC College Lahore, NED University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro University, and many others. The committee will monitor the implementation of already finalized curriculum. The members will play the supervisory role on the introduction of curriculum formed by the members of national curriculum courses.
