Karachi: Total forty Pakistani teachers have left for Beijing to participate in the International Chinese Language Teachers Training Programme 2017. Their see off ceremony was organized on Sunday.

The charge d’affaires of China Zhao Lijian was present at the ceremony to say goodbye to the Pakistani contestants of the Teachers Training Programme.

Zhao Lijian said that fifteen days training program is sponsored by Beijing Municipal Commission of Education (BMCE).

Zhao Lijian said the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan is sponsoring the Pakistani candidate in association along with BMCE and Beijing International Education Exchange Center.

He furthermore added that Chinese is the official language of China and one of the 6 official languages in the United Nations.

There are approximately 1.5 billion people in the world who speak Chinese as their mother language.

More and more people across the world are learning Chinese with personal interests and also for the exceptional job chances, he added.

“Before the end of 2016, 511 Confucius Institutes have been set up in 140 states. Almost 70 states have included Chinese in their national education systems”.

Lijian said that the government of China is working all out to promote the teaching of Chinese language as well as Chinese culture in Pakistan.

Presently, there are four Confucius Institutes and 1 Chinese Culture Center in Pakistan.

“Furthermore, we are encouraging more aspirants from Pakistan to study in China. Last year, there were almost 18 thousand aspirants from Pakistan in China, among them 5,081 students are studying along with the Chinese government scholarships”, he added.

Pakistan is the leading state in number of aspirants along with Chinese government sponsored scholarships, he also said.

Lijan also added that: “we are encouraging the teaching of Urdu language in China as we believe it is much better to have communication in a mutual way. Now there are 7 varsities in China that teach Urdu.

During the past 3 years, the Chinese Embassy has sent almost 160 Pakistani teachers to China under this programme.

They were invited from the entire country.
