Dr. Tariq Banuri, Chairman of The Higher Education Commission, HEC announces that HEC is devising several plans to restart online academic activities for university’ students. This step has initiated to cover the loss of academic activities by the closing of institutions due to a pandemic, Covid-19.
According to Dr. Burani HEC has already signed an agreement with telecom companies to provide students special data bundle offers within affordable price ranges, especially to the students living in the reserved areas. However, HEC has also considering to provide students Smartphones, especially those who cannot afford smartphones to join the online classes session to cover the loss of their academic activities. A report said that a number of students were absent during their online class because they were deprived from smartphones. Universities are advised to provide the data of such students to HEC.
HEC Mulling To Resume Online Classes
Dr. Burani said that HEC is considering the problems and issues that came to see while starting online classes at the beginning of this vacation period due to Covid-19. The major issues that came to see are including on the faculty training, lack of online learning system by the universities, electricity issues, and connectivity and internet coverage issues, etc.
What Strategy HEC Has Offered To Resume Online Classes
However, HEC has formulated a strategy, comprised of 8 steps that will help to resolve all the issues lagging the way of online classes. Dr. Burani said that the universities through a well-built Learning Management System, LMS can continue the online classes. He added that the universities will continue online classes from June 1st, 2020 if the lockdown across the country will extend. Moreover, HEC has also initiated a technical Support Committee (TSC) that takes the responsibility to assist the universities’ staff in adapting the online mood of education.
