Decades of sincere effort and exceptional learning atmosphere at National College of Textile Engineering have become the prime investment in textile education which then repays in the shape of National Textile University (NTU), the first institution of textile education in Pakistan. Formerly it is called National College of Textile Engineering which was affiliated with University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore since 1976. National Textile University (NTU) is a federally administered institution offering graduate, Masters and PhD degrees in Textile Engineering, Computer Sciences, Management Sciences, Textile Management, Software Engineering, Social Sciences, Fashion, visual arts, humanities, information technology and other textile related disciplines.
The university is located about 12 km from the city center on Sheikhupura road in the outskirts of the famous city Faisalabad. Faisalabad is the Manchester of Pakistan where most of the textile industries reside. The National Textile University is affiliated with National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC).The university has recently started it’s Karachi campus with exceptional study program to facilitate the students of Karachi.
The university is also offering proficient career counseling services. The student affair office is in contact with all enrolled students and alumni. Industries ready to hire fresh pass-outs send a requesting email to this office. The through departmental representatives in the office connect eligible graduates with industries by sending them resumes or by conducting recruitment tests and interviews at the campus. Furthermore, Industries provide all information relevant to recruitment to the candidates through this office and it is ensured that the selected candidate is hired on the designation offered.
In 1954,a group of leading textile industrialists crucially realized the need of a textile designing institute in the country and hence collaborated with the Government of Punjab to establish a Textile Technology institute in Faisalabad. Sixty-two acres of state owned land was provided free of cost for the purpose. 2. 5 million Rs.Fund was granted by Kohinoor Industries, Colony Textile Mills, Dawood Foundation and Lyallpur Cotton Mills. Equipment and machinery, along with the services of experts under Colombo Plan were provided by The Government of U.K. under the administration of president Field Marshall Muhammad Ayub Khan who also laid the foundation stone of the Institute, on 12th of October 1959. Later, the Institute was granted affiliation by the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore, and it was known as “National College of Textile Engineering”. The first batch of graduate engineers emerged in1966. In 1973 Federal Government took over the administration of the Institute.
The JICA program is a Japanese Government administered program which has provided assistance in the form financial aid of 650 million yen to purchase the latest machinery and equipment for all the departments of the Institution. Later, according to the Ordinance CXXIV of 2002 the college was upgraded as National Textile University on 15 November 2002 by the President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Infrastructure and Facilities:
The campus is spread over an area of 62 acres. Various curricular and extra- curricular societies are working at the premises to cater the professional and skill development attributes, like: Spinning Society, Society of Textile Chemist, Garment Society, Arts & Culture Society, Debating Club, Literary Society etc. NTU Directorate of Sports has offered sport facilities for their students. The students can take part in Cricket, Football, Athletics, Table Tennis and many more.
To facilitate distant learners, the university provides hostel facilities. There are three hostels in National Textile University Faisalabad including one girls while two boys hostels.
National Textile University aims to contribute in the sustainable socio-economic development of society and it is also working for the welfare of mankind through the pursuit of excellence in education, learning, and research.
The basic purpose of this institution is to have a transitional impact on society through outstanding and contemporary education, research, and innovation in textile designing and industry.
