The Government Training College for Teachers of the Deaf (GTCTD) Lahore is a trendsetter in Pakistan, established in 1952 with the view to training deaf teachers. In the beginning, it was being operated by the All Pakistan Deaf and Dumb Welfare Society, but then it was nationalized in 1975 and now operates under the University of Education, Lahore. Located in Gulberg II, this college has led the way in molding the special education area through offering professional training that is tailored towards the hearing impaired student. Over the decades, GTCTD has gained the reputation of having a specialized program and committed teaching faculty.
GTCTD offers learning opportunities to individuals that focus on offering professionals with roles associated with special education. GTCTD offers a number of accessible and meaningful learning opportunities. GTCTD is proud to have a B.Ed. (Hons.) Special Education, a course at the undergraduate university level and with a focus on teaching and pedagogy. GTCTD has partnered to offer a Post Graduate Diploma Speech and Language Therapy which provides students with skills to assist victims of communication disorders. GTCTD has a Post Graduate Diploma in Autism Spectrum Disorder, which was developed to provide learning related to meeting the educational and behavioral needs of persons with autism spectrum disorder. GTCTD also has a type of Associate Degree Program called an Associate Degree in Special Education, which introduces concepts and practice associated with special education.
The college is well furnished with facilities that support academic and personal growth. A female students hostel is provided in good condition, which is a safe and conducive place to stay. The campus is provided with frequent training workshops, seminars, and orientation sessions for the purpose of improving the learning experience and professional skills of the staff and students. Such courses are supported by the mission of GTCTD to produce highly competent teachers who can contribute meaningfully towards special education. Through its dedicated work, the college induces the prospective teachers to embrace the special challenges these hearing-impaired students bring in different fields of education.
