The duration of the BS Nursing Program is 4 years in which the students have to complete 8 semesters as per the course criteria announced by the college/university. The standardized format/scheme of studies as per credit hours for four-year BS Nursing issued by the PNMC and HEC is as follows:
1. Compulsory requirement subjects 25 – 25 credit hour
2. General courses selected from other departments 21 – 24 credit hours
3. Discipline specific foundation courses 30 – 33 credit hours
4. Major courses such as research projects or Internship 36 – 42 credit hours
5. Electives subjects 12 – 12 credit hours

PNMC Full Form is Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council
The Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council is an autonomous body that has the authoritative power to register the nurses so that they can practice in Pakistan. The PNMC was founded in 1948 according to the Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council Act. Apart from the nurses the PNMC also registers the midwives and lady health workers. The colleges and universities that offer the BS Nursing program must be affiliated with the Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council.
