UMT’s School of Systems and Technology (SST) Secures Prestigious HEC NRPU Research Grant

Lahore, Pakistan — The School of Systems and Technology (SST) at the University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore, proudly announces the successful award of a competitive research grant under the National Research Program for Universities (NRPU) Call 2025–26 by the Higher Education Commission.

The funded project, titled "Developing a Prostate Cancer Histopathology Slide Images Dataset and an AI-Based Diagnostic Software Tool for Prostate Cancer Grading, and Perineural Invasion Detection," is being led by Dr. Muhammad Asim Butt, Assistant Professor at SST-UMT. The project has been selected through a rigorous national evaluation process, reflecting its academic merit, innovation, and potential societal impact. The NRPU program is one of Pakistan’s most prestigious research funding initiatives, aimed at strengthening indigenous research capacity and addressing significant national challenges.

This achievement reflects UMT’s unwavering commitment to advancing high-quality research and fostering a culture of innovation. The project is expected to make valuable contributions to the fields of Health, Wellbeing, and Biotechnology, with potential applications in areas such as immersive systems and computer-aided diagnostic systems.

Dr Muhammad Asim Butt expressed his gratitude to Allah for this opportunity, stating that the grant will enable the research team to conduct cutting-edge investigations while also providing important opportunities for student involvement, capacity building, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
