Plagiarism

There are some actions that can almost unquestionably be labeled plagiarism. buying, stealing, or borrowing a paper (including, of course, copying an entire paper or article from the Web); hiring someone to write your paper for you; copying large sections of text from a source without quotation marks or proper citation.

Different types of plagiarism are

• Direct Plagiarism - Copying information word for word without using quotation marks or identifying the author.
• Borrowing work from others - Any work submitted must be personally written, it should not be written by another person. Submitting work that another student has written can result in very serious consequences.
• Incorrect Citation - Any quotation, paraphrase or summary that you use in your essay must be clearly and accurately identified.
• Copy and Paste Plagiarism - Copying large sections of text from a variety of sources and pasting them all together.
• Double Submission - Submitting the same essay for two separate assessments or in two different classes.
• self-plagiarism, reproduction of one’s own published work, in whole or in part, under the guise of something original.

According to the website https://www.plagiarism.org “Recent studies indicate that approximately 30 percent of all students may be plagiarizing on every written assignment they complete.”  According to that same site, the problem is extensive in Arizona.

Main reasons due to which students plagiarize are

• Insufficient preparation - Quality writing usually requires careful planning and preparation. If preparation has been insufficient there is often a temptation to meet deadlines by copying the work of others.
• Poor writing skills - Academic writing is often very difficult, especially when in another language. Copying from others with more advanced writing skills is not only plagiarism but will not develop your own abilities.
• Lack of confidence - Some students feel overwhelmed by the sources they have read and the scope of the task. These feelings of inadequacy tempt students to use work that they see as more competent than their own.

To avoid plagiarism, one should be Pride in one’s Work and do not cheat. Plagiarism is a serious academic crime. It's also easy to commit by accident if you're not careful. It’s similar to steal someone’s property. We all should try to avoid plagiarism. Not only because it is illegal but being Muslims it’s our moral duty not to cheat or hurt others. Try to spread this as much as possible to make people aware of it. We should try to stop remove plagiarism at our own level.
