Lahore: On the instructions of Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, two medical universities in Rawalpindi and Multan will be constructed very soon. These varsities will promote medical education and strengthen and develop the public health sector, nursing as well as allied health sciences.
This announcement was made by the Adviser to chief minister on Health Kh Salman Rafique while heading meeting on Wednesday.

The principals of Rawalpindi Medical College and Nishtar Medical College gave presentations on the project of establishing medical universities in their respective regions.
It was notified that in Sindh there are 8 medical varsities in government zone whereas in Punjab there are just 3 medical universities in government zone whereas population of the province has reached over 120 million.

Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah exposed that resources, land and hospitals are available in these regions for the construction of medical varsities and the government will provide all the extra resources.
He set up a four-member committee presided over by Vice Chancellor of King Edward Medical University Prof Faisal Masood for preparing feasibility report and recommendations within a week.

Kh Salman Rafique said promotion of medical education and strengthening of health zone is the passion of CM Shahbaz Sharif and he is ready to provide all out resources for establishing the medical universities.
He recalled that a few years back, 5 medical colleges were established in different regions of Punjab on the instructions of CM.
