Education doesn’t matter for a cricketer, says Abdul Qadir

Islamabad: Former leg spinner Abdul Qadir is of the view that education does not matter for a cricketer because most of the top players in the history of Pakistan cricket were uneducated. Abdul Qadir has given this statement as a reply to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan's statement about lack of educated players in the national team.

He said:

"I totally disagree with this statement because a lot of top players including Hanif Muhammad, Mushtaq Muhammad, Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, Inzamam ul Haq, Younus Khan, Sarfraz Nawaz, Wasim Akram as well as Shoaib Akhtar were not that educated".

Talking about the head coach of national cricket team Mickey Arthur who has not joined the team yet, Qadir said this is the reason why earlier cricketers criticize the board for making useless decisions.

He further said "The board is holding the campground for players and the head coach is missing from it".

Qadir also termed the fitness camp of PCB `useless' saying it will not help in enhancing the performance of players in the series against England in July this year.

While talking to media persons he added:

"Instead PCB should have made four teams and have hold matches between them on seaming pitches to groom the national team for the tour of England tour".

"The best players from the four teams should have been involved in the final Playing Eleven for the series against England in July and the second best players should have been set aside as standbys in the other team" he added.

Further he added that PCB thinks that he criticizes the board and officials without any solid reason. "However, I think that criticizing with giving solution is an exceptional idea".

Abdul Qadir said that he has high expectations from the opener Shaan Masood to do well in the series against England.

He added:

"Shaan was said to be the rightest player in the PCB fitness camp which is very good for a player of his age because his other colleagues failed to satisfy the fitness trainers".
