Allama Iqbal Open University Announces Closure of MA M.Ed. Programs after Autumn Semester

As per a letter received from The Higher Education Commission (HEC) all universities of Pakistan are directed to prevent giving BA/BSc and MA/MSc programs with the aim to contour the sixteen and eighteen years schooling and to prevent victimization of varied titles for the sixteen years and eighteen years degree programs like BS/BSc (Hons)/MA/MSc and M.Phil/ MS/MSc (Hons) severally. Hence, to possess a typical word system the Commission gave 2020 as a point for the last giving of MA, Master of Science, and M.ed.  Programs. According to the commission, Pakistani universities are offering 16-year and 18-year degree programs under different names.

Prior Notification of abolition of BA, B.Sc. And MA, M.Sc.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on 7th July 2019 issued its final directions to all the public and private universities and their affiliated colleges of the country to abolish the two years BA/B.Sc. Program. It directed the universities to start the Associated Degree (AD) programs from the coming year. Dr. Banuri the Chairman HEC said that a notification has been issued on July 11, 2019, well-thought-out and carefully examined, to phase out two years BA/BSc and MA/MSc programs, in the wake of 17 years of consultation.

Disclosure of admission in Two Years Degree Program By AIOU

According to Director Admissions of the University, Mian Muhammad Riaz, AIOU enrolls many thousand students in MA, MSc, and M.Ed. programs every semester. However, as an accountable public sector mega university of the country, AIOU can follow HEC rules during this regard and therefore would stop giving of those programs when the fall 2020 semester.Although this can be the last giving of those programs, the university can continue academic activities for people who can get admission in these programs in fall 2020.

Now the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has also announced to abolish the two years MA and M.Ed. degree programs in the Autumn Semester.
