The DESY Summer Student Programme 2026 provides a unique opportunity for international undergraduate and early master’s students to gain hands-on research experience in one of Europe’s leading scientific institutions. Hosted by the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), this fully funded programme allows students to work on cutting-edge projects in physics, engineering, computing, and accelerator science, while also exploring German culture and scientific innovation.
The programme runs from 21 July to 10 September 2026, and applications are open until 31 January 2026.
The DESY Summer Student Programme is designed to immerse students in real scientific research projects at DESY’s facilities in Hamburg or Zeuthen. Students spend 7.5 weeks working alongside experienced scientists, participating in lectures, lab tours, and seminars.

The DESY Summer Student Programme is fully funded, offering financial and logistical support to all selected students:
Daily allowance of €28.50 to cover living costs
Free accommodation in DESY hostels for the programme duration
Partial travel reimbursement (depending on location)
Programme completion certificate equivalent to 10 ECTS points
Hands-on experience on real DESY research projects

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Undergraduate or early Master’s students who have completed at least three years of full-time university studies
Applicants completing a Master’s degree before the programme are not eligible
Enrolled at a university during the programme dates
Strong English proficiency and basic computing skills
First-time participants; previous participants cannot reapply
Students from Russian and Belarusian institutes are currently not eligible
