O Level Eligibility Criteria in Pakistan
In Pakistan, the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) recognizes both Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge O Levels as equivalent to the Secondary School Certificate (SSC/Matriculation). However, to receive an equivalence certificate, students must fulfill certain subject requirements.
Minimum Subject Requirements
To qualify for SSC equivalence, students must complete a minimum of 8 O Level subjects, including:
Compulsory Subjects
- English
- Urdu
- Islamiyat
- Pakistan Studies
- Mathematics
Electives – Three elective subjects chosen by the student.
Science Group Eligibility
To be placed in the Science Group, students must pass:
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology OR Computer Science/Information & Communication Technology (ICT).
Students who choose Computer Science/ICT instead of Biology will still qualify for Science Group equivalence at SSC level.
Arts Group Eligibility
Students who do not fulfill the above science subject requirements will automatically be placed in the Arts Group by IBCC.
